Where Does Mitt Romney Get His Incredible Energy?
As October came to an end, Americans along the Mid-Atlantic Coast were saying with weather-beaten exhaustion: “Never in history has there been such a big storm as Hurricane Sandy!”
Wouldn’t it be weird if unbeknown to them they were also metaphorically referring to the storm we create inside ourselves, a storm that batters our insides and floods us with grief whenever we fail to hold our peace and let God live our lives?
The inner storm is the storm Jesus Christ refers to when he advises us to live in heaven rather than a hell of our own making:
“If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.” (Matthew 5:29)
The teaching of Jesus is clear: just as heaven is here and now, so hell can be here and now. And if we are not choosing heaven this moment, somewhere inside ourselves we are living in hell this moment.
For example, let’s say your boss says, “We need you to work 12 hour days!” How will you respond? Would you tell yourself, “Ugh! I don’t have that kind of energy!” Or will you say to yourself, “No problem! I am a child of God and have all the energy of the universe. I don’t have to believe in lack. I can choose young and healthy and strong and full of life.”
People marvel at how Mitt Romney works day after day after day, hours upon hours, without ever seeming tired. What is he telling himself? Might you not say our inner conversation with ourselves makes all the difference between experiencing hell or heaven? What is Romney focusing on? Couldn't you conclude that paying attention to seeming negatives generates hell, while purposely focusing on beauty and blessings opens the door to heaven?
Now let’s look deeper. Let’s suppose it is not our conscious mind that is generating thoughts which either energize or drain. Let’s suppose it is our subconscious mind. Does our subconscious mind in some situations seep lurking thoughts that have us dragging? If so, can we train our subconscious mind to radiate strength and well-being … constant reminders of the truth of who we really are?
That is where the workbook lessons given by Jesus Christ come to the rescue. It is said that the modern day revelation from Jesus Christ, A Course in Miracles, is a “preparation device” for total perfect enlightenment, for the everlasting experience of heaven. Okay. But from a more limited human perspective one might think of the workbook lessons as “subconscious mind training.” If we practice the lessons constantly and diligently, our subconscious mind will form new habits and these new habits will allow our holy spirit to work much more strongly and effectively inside of us, thus immensely enhancing our enlightenment process.
In short, if we are listening to the voice of our holy spirit, and hearing clearly, we may well be hearing something like: “Get a Miracles book and learn the lessons.”
What happens if we don’t practice the lessons? Will we still become totally enlightened? In A Course in Miracles, Jesus answers this question clearly:
“This [our earth curricula] is a course in miracles. It is a required course. Only the time you take it is voluntary.”
“Our success in transcending the ego is guaranteed by God, and I can share my perfect confidence in His Promise because I know He gave me this confidence for both of us and all of us. I bring His Peace back to all His Children, because I received it of Him for us all.”
“Forget not once this journey is begun the end is certain. The end is sure and guaranteed by God.”
If the end is certain and all we do is shorten or lengthen the time until the end, like the refrain of the Scottish song Loch Lomond, “O ye'll tak' the high road and I'll tak' the low road, An' I'll be in Scotland afore ye,” then why not take the shortest way home?
“All the Sons of God are waiting for your return, just as YOU are waiting for THEIRS. Delay does not matter in eternity, but it IS tragic in time. You have elected to be in time rather than in eternity, and have therefore changed your belief in your status. But election is both free and alterable. You do NOT belong in time. Your place is ONLY in eternity, where God Himself placed you forever.”
How fast can we return to living in metaphoric “Scotland?”
Consider how a man who lived on the Mid-Atlantic Coast would feel, or how a woman asked to work 12 hour days would respond, or how anyone faced with any challenge whatsoever would handle the challenge, if he or she had integrated on a deep subconscious level the following lesson:
“I am God’s Son, complete and healed and whole, shining in the reflection of His Love. In me is His creation sanctified and guaranteed eternal life. In me is love perfected, fear impossible, and joy established without opposite.”
