March Into New Life With Jesus Christ

Every year in the month of March we start imagining Springtime ... and craving the delightful experience which we usually feel in Springtime. But what does Springtime signify in spiritual symbolic language?

In his modern day revelation for the 21st Century, A Course in Miracles, Jesus Christ uses words which just about say it all:

It is a reawakening or a rebirth; a change of mind about the meaning of the world. It is the acceptance of the Holy Spirit's interpretation of the world's purpose; the acceptance of the Atonement for oneself. It is the end of dreams of misery, and the glad awareness of the Holy Spirit's final dream. (ACIM Manual for Teachers)

Actually, in the above quote Jesus is talking about the resurrection. It makes sense Springtime would stand for the resurrection. Especially in the temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere where everything is dormant in Winter ... dead or seemingly dead. Springtime signifies "return from the dead," resurrection.

But even the resurrection has a unique meaning in spiritual symbolic language. Jesus is here to show us how to rise from the dead ... the spiritually dead.

When angels look at our extremely limited human condition they see us as barely just alive, metaphorically dead compared to who we really are as spiritual beings.  In our spiritual nature we are infinitely powerful, all knowing, bound by neither time nor space, brighter than the brightest galaxy of suns.  But as human beings ... well, Jesus is here to awaken us to our potential, to raise us from the spiritual dead, so to speak.

With the help of Jesus we are born again.  It is the Springtime of our soul. The end of Winter's misery.  The recovery from pain, sickness, suffering, and the seeming inevitability of death.  Jesus further describes the resurrection:

The resurrection is the denial of death, being the assertion of life. Thus is all the thinking of the world reversed entirely. Life is now recognized as salvation, and pain and misery of any kind perceived as hell. Love is no longer feared, but gladly welcomed. Idols have disappeared, and the remembrance of God shines unimpeded across the world. Christ's face is seen in every living thing, and nothing is held in darkness, apart from the light of forgiveness. There is no sorrow still upon the earth. The joy of Heaven has come upon it. (ACIM Manual for Teachers)

Such is your resurrection, for your life is not a part of anything you see. It stands beyond the body and the world, past every witness for unholiness, within the Holy, holy as Itself.  (ACIM Lesson 151)

With Jesus Christ inspiring us, let's really honor this year the coming of Spring.  With every breakup of ice and melting of snow, let's dwell on what it means for the thinking of the world to be reversed entirely. With every green shoot pushing through newly uncovered ground, let's be happy with the new assertion of life. With every star shaped chionodoxa luciliae, or yellow buttercup-like Eranthis hyemalis, or Drooping bell-shaped Leucojum vernum, let's rejoice with the exuberant joy of heaven. With each and every little sign of Springtime, let's feel along with Jesus it is our resurrection.

Then soon the Spring rain will come.  But let's see the rain is miracles for us. And finally green lavishly abundant new life.  And let's experience this green as our new life in Christ. Now the message of Jesus bursts forth in our heart:

Miracles fall like drops of healing rain from Heaven on a dry and dusty world, where starved and thirsty creatures came to die. Now they have water. Now the world is green. And everywhere the signs of life spring up, to show that what is born can never die, for what has life has immortality. (ACIM Workbook)

And in our Spring we become Teachers of God.  Now we continually re-experience our own exciting burst into real life as we lead our brothers out of their Winter and into the Spring we ourselves glory in.  At some holy Springtime moment every day we verbalize a wonderful miracle-creating reminder:

My resurrection comes again each time
I lead a brother safely to the place at which the journey ends.
I am renewed each time
a brother learns there is a way from misery and pain.
I am reborn each time
a brother’s mind turns to the light in him.
