History's Second Greatest Valentine's Gift

Select the best answer as to who used the words: "All you need is love."
(1) John Lennon of the Beatles.
(2) Jesus Christ of Galilee.
(3) Angels from heaven many thousands of years before Jesus.
(4) Your own inner voice.
(5) All of the above.

February is our month of love. In stores, schools, homes and workplaces we see Valentine's Day decorations, cards, gifts, quotes ... myriad expressions of love and joy! Reminders that certainly the love of our open heart is the most wonderful gift we can give to anyone any time.

But what is the second most meaningful Valentine's gift you can give to another?

What if you could introduce them to an actual course which teaches them to produce great miracles of love ... the course Jesus teaches?

In the earliest days of Christianity, as the Jesus movement spread, the stories of Jesus were told by word of mouth, with concepts being added and subtracted according to the varied levels of spiritual understanding of those passing on the stories.

If you've ever played the game of whispering a statement in the ear of the next person in the circle, who then whispers it to the next person, and around the circle, you've surely been astounded at how totally the statement changes by the time it finishes the circle. Yet the early spread of Christianity was similar. Word of mouth to a few ears, then word of the next mouth to other ears, etc.

After many years of this, a number of varied accounts of the lives of Jesus and the Apostles were written down, often exhibiting different theological positions, again according to the local word of mouth and also according to the level of spiritual understanding of the writer. Then of course scribes made copies which in turn were copied, which were further copied again and again, introducing all along the way scribal errors, insertions, and excisions.

Many branches of Christianity developed: Ebionite, Marcionite, varieties of Gnosticism, untold instances of Jesus stories being  mixed with previous local religions, and of course various flavors of the version which eventually came to dominate and be labeled orthodox Catholicism by its advocates. Was this vast variety because some of the people spreading Christianity never understood the real teachings of Jesus? Was it because they felt they needed to twist the message a bit to sell to particular audiences? Was it because their own level of spiritual opening could only allow them to interpret according to their own way of seeing things?

Whatever the reasons, the real teaching of Jesus became seriously obscured. Luckily, "all you need is love" usually made it through the obfuscation.

Of course Jesus doesn't quit giving his teachings. There have always been those who open up spiritually and hear His Voice. But how blessed we are in the 21st Century to have a very thorough and clear exposition of the teaching of Jesus in A Course in Miracles, a device directly from Jesus for helping people remove the blocks to love:

The course does not aim at teaching the meaning of love, for that is beyond what can be taught. It does aim, however, at removing the blocks to the awareness of love's presence, which is your natural inheritance. (Introduction to A Course in Miracles)

Those who have used A Course in Miracles have opened to such unbelievable love ... it cannot even be described ... certainly beyond any the world is accustomed to experiencing.

And what does Jesus say in A Course in Miracles about all the many branches of Christianity with their varied theologies which people use to feel separate from each other ... and often unloving toward each other?

Theological considerations as such are necessarily controversial, since they depend on belief and can therefore be accepted or rejected. A universal theology is impossible, but a universal experience is not only possible but necessary. It is this experience toward which the course is directed.

This experience which Jesus refers to is mind-boggling inner peace, exuberant joy, and love so extensive and breathtaking it could never beforehand have been imagined ... just about what you'd expect from following the true teachings of Jesus.

If God giving his only begotten Son was the greatest gift of love ever given, then maybe Jesus giving us A Course in Miracles was the second most loving gift in history, sort of like a wonderful Valentine's gift to all. Would you join with Jesus in expressing the deepest, most meaningful love ever?  If so, give all who you love and appreciate a gift copy of A Course in Miracles.
